課程概述

This is a graduate level course and will cover both software engineering concepts and embedded system design. The students will learn about using the software engineering concepts to design an embedded system based on an embedded platform. The lab in each phase in the course will help students finish their term projects in the end of the course.

1. Introduction to Embedded Software with Software Engineering
Lab 1-1:UML Tools Introduction
Lab 1-2:Embedded Platform Introduction
2. Introduction to UML for Embedded Software
Lab 2-1:UML modeling: using input/output subsystem as examples
Lab 2-2:Basic input/output on embedded platform
3. Requirements and System Constraints for Embedded Software
Lab 3-1:GUI for embedded platforms
Lab 3-2:Image compression on embedded platforms
4. Software Design
a. Software Architecture for Embedded System
b. Software Design for Embedded System
Lab 4-1:System Requirements and Specification Modeling using UML
Lab 4-2:Term Project Specification Modeling
5. Software Quality Assurance and Testing
Lab 5-1:Case study: Digital Camera-image input
Lab 5-2:Case study: Digital Camera-image compression
Lab 5-3:Case study: Digital Camera-image display
Lab 6-1:Case study: Digital Camera-system implementation
Lab 6-2:Case study: Digital Camera-system testing
(We use Digital Camera as an example project currently. Actually in the course we will provide some alternative projects for students to work on, such as Android applications development, OpenMoko projects, etc.) 

課程目標
The students will learn about using the software engineering concepts to design an embedded system based on an embedded platform. Apply the concepts of software engineering to the design and implementation of embedded systems. The project of an embedded systems can be a hardware platform, an operating system, or an applictions. The outcome of the course will accquaint students with the processes of modeling, design and realizing an embedded application. 
課程要求
Prerequisites: Computer Programming (C/C++), Introduction to Computer Science (plus some operating system concepts)
1. Prerequiste: C/C++ Programming Language, Introduction to computer science (or Operating Systems)
2. Grading Policies: Homeworks and Lab assignments (40%), Oral presentations (10%), and Projects (50%)
